Traditional Box Sash Windows

Project Details

This large scale project saw us handcraft over seventy traditional box sash windows with cords and lead weights for a residential development in Thornham. Constructed using Sapele Hardwood and featuring Slimlight double glazing, the windows combined heritage styling with energy conservation. This is an excellent solution for period property owners wishing to preserve the traditional construction of their sash windows while still being able to better insulate their homes.

Thornham-5-681x1024With so many windows being required, they were completed in batches over a period of months. Consistency in appearance was clearly of immense importance and this was ensured through the keeping of meticulous records, drawings and plywood patterns.

Requirements for the cords and lead weights were precisely calculated by weighing the window lights. The lead weights were then cut to the exact size and weight required.
